A fellow with a lot of experience helped/instructed me to:
-use a jack (with a flat piece of wood protecting the sump) to tilt the
engine enough to to get a 2x 4 under the rear of the engine and use the
frame rails to support the 2 x 4
-use one of those alignment tools for the splines
-insert a long stud in the middle top hole of the engine to help things line
up and take a bit of the weight,
-jiggle the gearbox rather than the engine to line them up.
-once gearbox and engine are mated, jack up engine and remove 2 x 4.
The job wasn't easy, but it worked.
