To advance is to cause the spark to occur earlier in the engine's cycle, i.e. more before TDC or less after. So if the current timing is 0 (TDC), to advance you move it before TDC. 7 before TDC (BTDC) is more advanced than 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0 ... BTDC. But 5 after TDC (ATDC) is more advanced than 6, 7, 8, 9, ... ATDC. HTH. Donald. > Am I correct in the assumption of: > to Retard is away from TDC > To Advance is to move to TDC |
