Most of the glazing putties on the market today are lacquer based, both
the red and grey types you see on the shelves. These are all finely ground
particals suspended in the lacquer carrier. The deeper you fill a void or
scratch, the long it will take to dry because of the venting of the hidden
material below. Even when it looks dry and feels dry to the touch, don't
believe it. Wait another 15 minutes. It's annoying to sand out that final
bit only to have it roll up into little balls of filler and you have to
start over again. Heating it does not do any good as you want it to vent,
not bake. A simple fan blowing across the surface on a nice warm day will
do more than anything else. If it dries too fast with heat, it can be
prone to cracking from uneven expansion / contraction.

Be sure to cover up that nice fixed body panel with SEALER, not just
your
usual primer. You must seal the surface or any paint applied later on will
come out flat here as the filler underneath absorbs the moisture from the
topcoats.

My favorite primer paint to use is a simple tan one, but those are
harder
to find in cans at stores.
