Verify that carb number! If you have a Midget 1500 engine in there, the
carb may be a Zenith-Stromberg 140CDE. The Spits used a larger 150CDE
carb, to be compatible with our freer-flowing exhaust manifold. If that is
the case, the needle might be wrong (but I don't know the specific numbers).
Other than that, have you verified that your air piston diaphragm is OK? I
have seen them get 'eaten alive' by today's gasoline after just one season.
(You didn't mention how long it took you to drive the 2000 miles since the
rebuild.)
Letssee-- how about vacuum leaks etc? Everything tight?
