Ken,

I had this same problem with my GT6 when I bought it.  It had been in
storage for 10 years with a half-full tank.  There was so much varnish and
rust in the tank that I had to change the filter every week or so.  I got
the tank etched and coated and haven't changed the filter since.  Most rad
shops can do this for a very reasonable price (<$100).  Just because you
changed the filter four months ago doesn't mean that it isn't the problem.
BTW, varnish buildup on the sender also caused erratic readings, another
sign that your tank needs cleaning.
