Ken, You said it was about three months ago that this problem started and
then dissappeared, did it dissapear after the fuel filter was changed?  It
might possibly be that your tank is throwing massive rust chunks into your
filter.  An easy way to find out is take off your filter and bang the
filter against your workbench with the inlet side down.  If you have a LOT
of chunks come out, then your tank might need to be worked on, etched and
sealed anyhow.  I guess if you had this bad enough it could clog every
couple months or so.  Just $ .02 worth.
