That's what I did, except I used a chain saw - more fun. I'd consider
using a metal blade in a reciprocating saw to remove the screws and
remaining scrap wood, unless there's some reason to not leave bits of
cut-off screw in the joists.
Fooling around with each individual screw wastes a lot of time...
