My home has a typical utility room, with washer, dryer and (gas) hot water
heater. Both the dryer and the hot water heater are vented outside, plus
there is a small exhaust fan.
Few weeks ago, I finally got around to fixing the dryer vent, which had been
basically venting into the room (back behind the hot water heater, a hard
place to get to). Now it seems that, when the dryer is running, it pulls
enough negative pressure on the room to suck exhaust from the hot water
heater out of the air break between the heater itself and the vent pipe.
Any suggestions on how to solve this? Providing another opening for fresh
air to come in seems obvious, but I'd rather not do that if there is another
way. I assume the air break is required, to prevent too much draft through
the hot water heater. Relocating the hot water heater outside would be a
better solution, but more work than I'm really interested in tackling.
Shop tie-in : If I solve this, I can get back to the shop <G>
