We just did that same thing this week end. I installed a rebuilt 235 into my
'59. It would have been much harder with the tranny still on the motor. It's a
snap to remove the transmission. It will save you time in the long run.
I have a question... what's the purpose of having tappet adjusters on hydraulic
lifters? I was told the only way to adjust these is with the engine running. We
did it, but it was insanely difficult adjusting a moving tappet! Apparently
hydraulic lifters don't maintain 100% pressure after the motor stops (?) Is
this correct?
P.S. There's nothing better than a brand new stovebolt!
