Ive seen many oil leaks from just not cleaning the old O Ring gasket out
completely. Its a PIA to do this on the original set up. A lot of folks
leave the o ring in for a few changes and it gets really brittle and can
leave bits of the gasket clung to the housing causing a leak when the
new gasket cannot lay flat to seal the canister.
PS please DO NOT spray Brake cleaner on your engine to clean off the
oil, you WILL be repainting your engine where you sprayed it . The stuff
will crinkle paint off in a heartbeat. In fact thats exactly what I use
to prep a block for paint as a final check for bits of left over paint.
Spray it good and wet , then use a blow gun to blast off the dried up
paint bits in the nooks and crannies areas.
