I believe the Pontiac Bonneville was the originator. I once owned a '63
Bonneville hardtop TriPower. Paid all of $600 for it. Spent the first
Saturday going thru the carburetor linkage to get it to work right; it's
a progressive setup. When I got it done, it was fun to drive. Got
pretty good mileage until you put your foot down, and then all those
carb barrels were hooked directly to the fuel gage. This was pre-stereo
days, so it had a reverb system on the radio, which basically put a
slight delay to the rear speakers. Boy, was I cool! Sold it a couple
years later as it needed mufflers and brakes, for $600.
