SVRA actually did a pretty good job with their current classification of the
GT6. The choices they make in the classification compared to other cars (in
the same class) favor the GT6.
Why? Because SVRA references the 1967 SCCA regulations for class approval for
group 3.
Original SCCA classification had the GT6 in E production where it was
particularly dominate. Not many cars were prepared for National SCCA
competition in the first few years of the new 6 cylinder beast. (Like less than
10 quality SCCA cars until the 1969 season).
At the end of 1969 and after a banner year of regional and national wins, the
car was reclassified after the ARRC at Daytona.
So for the start of the 1970 season- and ever after, the GT6 was in D
production.
With the most general sense of reason, and for the sake of a true and accurate
Base for â??Period Correct classificationâ??â?¦.
the Triumph GT6 is a D production car and it should run prepared to at or about
the 1972 SCCA rules as such.
Most importantly; with a stock appearing manifold with no more than 2 throats.
Stromberg or S.U. 1.5 â?? to 1.75â??
To Jason Sukeyâ??s point outâ?¦ no penalty for an enlarged size of a dual carb
set-up. (Iâ??m all in on that footnote)
As far as a triple Webber set-up; with a custom manifold.
That is a totally different scenario and was never on these cars in the in the
first decades of competition. (Nice try, but Sorry Scott your GT6 didnâ??t have
those Webers on it when it was campaigning for the SCCA DP national
championship).
The only exception would be the Dolanâ??s group 44 car which actually ran in
GTU under IMSA rules at the hand of the Great Ted Schumacher!
And, with every trick thrown at it; Itâ??s simply a bump in class.
Intake Manifold modification, and or extra carbs. = C Production
Lots of other mods = C production
IMSA GTU type GT6= C prod.
A modern E production SCCA well built car like Anthony Parkerâ??s = C
production.
For the record, I donâ??t care what type of GT6 you build or race.
I love them all.
But if we are to be fair to the original cars, certain modifications should be
evaluated.
I see 2 types of GT6 race cars that Iâ??d like to campaign .
1) almost period correct = DP
2) unlimited =CP.
Any type of GT6 is eligible to win the Kastner cup.
But All GT6 entries are eligible for a public stoning if they are found to be
slow.
