I was just having fun with this thread with my "sacrilege" reply.
Racing cars has always been about modifying OEM equipment to make it
more serviceable, faster, etc... Why should these tabs be any different?
On the other hand.. At some point, in the backs of our minds, we don't
want our cars, over time, to morph into something that isn't really a
Triumph. That we replace something that finally fails after nearly
half a century with plastic ties and/or Velcro just struck a nerve with
me. Will there be any sign of those old metal tabs 20 or 30 years from
now?
It seemed to me to be a great thread... Talking about how to save this
one little silly detail that could be so easily replaced with low tech
modern solutions!
Of course, it's not an issue for all cars in all classes of racing. By
all means, do what is appropriate for your car. It's just nice to
think that because of such discussions there may still be some of those
silly tabs to be seen in the pits, for future generations to ponder!
