Tricks? Nope I can't help you there. I looked over the exploded picture of
the carb looking for possible places to leak. My guess remains with a
missing or worn throttle shaft seal, or a bent shaft as Carl suggested.
Another possiblity listed in the Mikuni manual is an air leak at the starter
disc. Remove it and clean it, making sure that you don't damage the
surfaces of the disc or carb where they meet. Regarding your accelerator
jets and the one that was plugged, make sure you cleaned that out well with
carb cleaner and compressed air (sounds like you did). They tend to plug as
the holes are very small. Also, don't lose the little washer that goes on
the bottom of the accelerator jet. There is also supposed to be a small
round rubber o-ring that goes on the cap screw that covers the jet... not
sure if it were missing if it would leak air or not.
