I've also tried carb cleaner - hoping for the quick fix in a can
approach.
When I had the carb off and apart (partially apart), I did find a tear
in the gasket for the plate covering the jets - which I replaced and
thought that was the source of my air leak. Didn't do the trick. I
should also note that when the carbs where off the car, moving the
throttle caused the fuel to stream out a few feet on all barrels except
the one that is causing me trouble - it just sort of leaked out. After
I cleaned things out with compressed air, I was able to get all 4
barrels to stream fuel evenly. I'm going to do more wrenching this
week-end - any tricks with removing / inspecting the throttle shaft?

The only thing I can think of is that you have a vacuum leak somewhere.
Have you tried the old " spray carb cleaner around the gaskets" trick?
Did you inspect the carb when you took it off... looking for any place
where it could be cracked, missing a seal (like around the shaft), bolt,
etc... I am grasping here, but I can imagine no other explanation. What
does the plug look like? Greg Burrows
