Hi Daniel,
The sender needs a ground. When you ground it, it works fine. I'm told that
the gasket has a staple in it that allows the sender to get good ground.
Well, I made my own gasket and my temp gauge didn't work. I was too lazy to
remove the thermostat housing to redo it. So I wrapped some steel wire
around the threaded nut on the sender, and tied it to a nearby bolt on the
engine. Voila, the gauge works. Next time the housing is off I'll make sure
it gets grounded.
