Having a choke is a good idea no matter where you live. my secret to my
ex-67 2000 not developing the dreaded timing chain rattle was to not use
the choke until the starter had been used to get the oil pressure up to
at least 20 lbs. In other words, once pressure was showing on the gauge,
pull the choke and the car started...with oil pressure. A little rough
on starters you might say, but way cheaper than a timing chain kit in
the long run.
