Were you looking at a BN7/BT7 or a BJ7? Only the 3000 Mk.II, BN7/BT7, had
triple 1.5" carbs original from the factory (except of course for cars in
rally/race trim). They were produced from May '61 to Mar. '62. Later Mk.IIs,
BJ7, when back to twin 1.75" carbs with a new cam profile. In Feb. '64 the
Mk.III came out with twin 2" carbs. I don't have the info for the engine
numbers with me, its at home, but I can get it for you. How do you know that
one of the engines is a '65 engine? Without the id number for the block,
there is no way to tell for sure what year it is. The block itself was
unchanged for all 3000s. The differences in the engines were in the heads,
cams, carbs, and intake/exhaust manifolds. All these parts would bolt onto
any 3000 block, any 100/6 block for that matter. The 100/6 blocks can be
distinguished from a 3000 block. The later 100/6 blocks have different style
freeze plugs from the 3000 blocks and the early 100/6 blocks have the id
number for them was permanently marked on the block.
