I suspect you're right. The Central Valley in California becomes "Smoke
Valley" when the rice fields are being burned off. However, growing
rice requires lots of water and with the current drought there has been
a lot of pressure to cut back on the rice crop in the state. We may be
importing hulled rice ash from Japan soon.
