The best thing I've ever found for picking up oil spills is a product called
"Hulled Rice Ash", which is just what it says. This is the most absorbent
stuff I've ever seen, and it's cheap, too. $7 for a giant agricultural-size
sack ( 50 lb? ) at the local ripoff car parts store.

Every once in a while, I get a piece of junk mail that makes me glad
that my name gets sold. Yesterday was one of those days -- I got a
catalog from New Pig Corporation (1-800-hot-hogs, 1-800-643-oink). They
sell spill management products; aimed at industrial sites and such.
But they have some pretty cool stuff that seems useful for the home
mechanic: tyvek suits (would make great tear-proof, disposable
overalls, also good for crawling around in crawlspaces under the house)
a variety of respirator gear, bio-safe cleansers and parts solvents,
and lots and lots of different types of absorbent products (wipes,
sheets, rolls, kitty-litter equivalent). Mostly at decent prices, it seems ...
If you order by April 3, 1992, you get a free pair of boxer shorts
covered with pig pictures. I don't understand it, either.
