Agreed 100%. And the issue of a strip of tape either covering or
representing a number is easily covered by the existing rules. Again, they
just need enforcement. I don't remember tech at Nationals (or anywhere else)
ever checking the second number that would be run on a car.

Not a timing person, not an announcer, but a course worker who can't figure
out what those little strips of tape are supposed to represent.
