This was in Road and Track before it became Road & Track. I ran it each
year for the ten years I edited THE RIGHT LINE. I figured they were
unlikely to sue me for a non-profit circulation of a couple of hundred. :-)
I added a final verse:
This poem's so old, you must understand,
"Road & Track" had not yet started their ampersand.
To patch up the meter for the jolly old elf,
I tweaked it a bit, in spite of myself. -ed
