There was some discussion about going to 4 runs each day shortly after 9/11
and the end of Nationals.
It has now been sometime afterward, next seaons schedule has been released.
Maybe it is now time to reflect on some of the lessons we learned at
Nationals this year and maybe try to answer some questions that need to be
answered.
Positives of 2001 Nationals
Sure we were lucky running the number of cars we did in one day that there
were no major problems and we all got to play.
The major positive is the workers. The event ran approximately 465 cars in
one day (Friday) 3 runs on a single course. What helped was no down time
in running the event. No down time waiting for the change of workers which
was done on the fly. Secondly, no down time during competition waiting for
results for each set of runs. Each driver knew what had to be done.
Negatives:
You had to be ready to work when it was time. A little more attention had
to paid when it was your time to work. Also, some of the work order could
have been done differently. For example D-Mod ladies worked when D-Mod open
ran.
Questions:
1. I don't have the exact year or count but when did we exactly go to the
four day format, and how many cars were there?
2. If we have entries getting close to 1300 cars maybe we should go to a 6
day event. What do other competitors think?
3. What do competitors think of 4 runs per course?
I think may that it is the time to do it.
Recommendations for 2002:
I think that we saw a good thing happen this year with changing course
workers on the fly. Maybe we should incorporate this into the 2002 event.
With only 1 break during the middle of the running event like we did this
year.
How about going to a four run per course event. Guarntee 3 runs but have an
option for 4.
Think about it.
