I judge the above situation by watching the speed of the vehicle in question
as it approaches the intersection. If the speed/distance equation doesn't look
good for him stopping in time, I don't get in front of him. What if the
bulb is
burned out? What if he only touches the brake for a second before blasting
through anyway? What if you are paying him so much attention you get
clobbered by a car from a different direction you didn't see? What if
...what if...
Being skilled and aware is far better than all the "safety" gimmics put
together.
I think it used to be called defensive driving or something like that. In
general,
autocrossers have a better time with the concept than "normal" people because
of the "look ahead" nature of the sport. I feel safer driving around in my 64
Falcon than some people in 3 ton SUVs simply because I pay attention.
