require it to run the Goodyear R430 or Hoosier R60. I believe this idea has
more merit than adding ballast given the current GCR FF2000 minimum weight
of 1175. <<

Chris,

I would not support that proposal because on hot days, with two drivers,
the R430 would be just as good, if not better than, the R120 or R25A.
Under those circumstances FF2000 would dominate the class.

The proposal that's before the SEB right now would put the FF2000
chassis, which runs the same size rims and the same motor as an S2000, on
the track with a 30 lb weight penalty and less downforce (relative to the
S2). This might seem like a fair matchup, but consider this: when I
switched to an aluminum head on my FF1600 it made a noticeable difference
in the handling of the car. Before I used to have to compromise between
too much understeer and too much wheelspin. Moving 18 lbs from the top of
the engine to the floor helped. Imagine how much better a car would handle
if you effectively took 135 pounds out of the body and wings, and moved it
to the floorpan. You could have any fore-aft weight distirbution you
wanted, and a significantly lower cg.

Also I am concerned that the F2 would be the car to have on
"horsepower" courses. I believe that is already the case with the S2; the
thing that stopped me from buying one is the fact that it is difficult for
one person to work on a fullsize sportsracer. Since there doesn't seem to
be any shortage of competitive FF1600 cars available, I'm inclined to say
it ain't broke, don't try to fix it.
