I just became aware of a proposal to allow the FF2000 to run in CM without wings
and with 135 LBS of ballast. I do not think this is a good idea for two
reasons:
One is the potential that this car will be faster in this configuration which
will take a fairly economical class and force everyone who wants to be
competitive to go out and spend considerable money to become competitive again.
The second and perhaps more important reason is that a FF2000 with the
equivalent weight of a second driver may not be safe. This car was never
designed to run with that much weight in it.
Rule changes are suppossed to be consistent with the SEB's core values. I fail
to see how this change will maximize member value, evolve the class in a planned
manner, or provide a variety of classes to satisfy a range of economies and
commitments with the overall objective of increased participation and
involvement. I see this change driving participants out of the very successful
CM class and creating a slower BM class with the resulting poor participation
due to the high cost of entry. Please do not implement this proposal.
