        Jim:

You should always check with your current agent first. You may
find, as I did, that they will want to charge you the normal rate for
the car, as if it were a daily driver. Some companies will play ball and
offer some sort of classic car deal. In my case, I could not drive the
car except to and from special events like parades and car shows. Sigh.
I was looking for a bit more.
I am currently using Haggarty (www.haggartyinsurance.com). All
they insure is classic cars, using what is called a "declared value
policy". You tell them how much the car is worth, and they charge you
accordingly. I have my TR6 declared at $11,000 and the charge is $120
per year.
As you might imagine, there are some restrictions. You must
prove that the car is not your main transportation by showing proof of
insurance on another vehicle. Teenagers may not drive the car. The car
must be stored indoors in a wooden or masonry structure. You are not to
drive the car to/from work (I cheat on that one). There are no annual
mileage limits. Insuring another classic car gets really cheap - I added
a 1976 Mini for $80 a year.
I did it all over the web, emailed them some photos and sent
them a check. Very simple. I have never filed a claim, so I can't speak
to their claims service. NFI, just a happy customer.

        Vance

P.S. If the young woman on the home page were somehow associated
with the company, you can bet I would find MANY more things to insure
with them, and would spend lots of time dreaming up excuses to call
them. That is, until my wife objected.

Friends:

I would like to hear from anyone who can recommend (or NOT recommend)
a company to insure my 72 '6. Naturally I want to insure it for an
agreed upon value. Also, I'd like to be able to drive my car for around
2000 miles per year.

I realize there are a number of companies that do classic autos. Is
there any company that has an affinity agreement with 6Pack, VTR, or
other LBC group?

  Thanks,
  Jim Jones
