While I suppose they COULD affect the quality of the idle, they
definitely can affect the idle speed, and in particular how fast the
idle speed returns to normal after a cruise.
If the bypass valves are sticking or misadjusted, the idle speed
will be high, and will return very slowly (if at all) to a normal idle
speed of , say, 900RPM.
