I'd like to thank all who responded to my annoying problem. I ground the
speedo end of the cable to get the proper length and also lubricated the
cable with lithium grease and have not elimated, but minimzed the problem.
Will probably tinker more but currently ended up sending my carbs out to
Gary Martin for a rebuild (due to other issues).

Bruce---If your speedo needle is bouncing, trimming the extra 1/16 inch
might help. (Can't hoit!) I did this by wrapping the end I was about to
shorten with a few tight rounds of masking tape, then using a bench
grinder to remove the cable end, down to the tepe mark I made
previously. (The tape keeps the wire windings of the cable from
unraveling)

You did mean trim the speedo end of the cable not the angle drive end?
The speedo end has the plastic bush/stop that does not allow it to go
further into the sleeve. I did measure it and it is about 1/16" too

The 3/8's should be measured at the speedometer end. Insert the inner
cable
into the sheath until it will not go any further. At that point, you try
turning the inner cable by hand to make sure it is in the angle drive.
Once
you are satisfied that it is where it should be, go to the end that
inserts
into the Speedo and measure. It should be no more than 3/8's. Guess I
wasn't
clear on that point. Sorry.
