The 3/8's should be measured at the speedometer end. Insert the inner cable into the sheath until it will not go any further. At that point, you try turning the inner cable by hand to make sure it is in the angle drive. Once you are satisfied that it is where it should be, go to the end that inserts into the Speedo and measure. It should be no more than 3/8's. Guess I wasn't clear on that point. Sorry. Robert L.
