Someone asked about putting 215 X 70 X 15 tires on a 5.5 inch wheel. I agree
with Rick O. who said:
" I have 205-70/15's mounted on 6.0 x 15 Revolution 5-spoke alloys. These
tires are as wide as anyone should want to go as I get some slight rubbing on
the front wings when backing up at full lock"
I had 215 X 70 X 15s on stock wheels on my 70 TR6 and they worked fine until
I backed out of the driveway onto the street at full lock. Then the tire
rubbed the inside of the front fender which took 3 or 4 chunks out of the edge
of the tire and bent the inside lip of the fender. Since I have an early 6
which sits lower than the later models this may not be true for the later 6s
(1973 on-if memory, which is going fast, is correct). I have 205 X 55 X 16s on
7" Panasports now and have found that the 55 ratio is great for handling but
makes the speedo read fast and adds about 100 RPM to the work my motor is doing
at highway speed. My next set will be 205 X 65 or 70 X 16s.
