        Joseph:

Good biblical name, by the way.

Go here for the ignition advance specs on the various models of
Triumphs:

                http://www.triumphclub.co.nz/technical.html
                http://www.telusplanet.net/~chichm/tech/lucas.pdf

The mechanical advance number for the distributor will also be
stamped on the breaker plate inside the distributor. Remember that the
number inside the dizzy is rated in DISTRIBUTOR degrees, and so you must
multiply it by two to get CRANKSHAFT degrees. My dizzy has "13" stamped
on the breaker plate, which means it delivers 26 degrees of crankshaft
advance.

The TR5 and EARLY TR6 PI cams were identical, 280 degrees
advertised duration, which delivered a gross rated 150 HP SAE. The later
TR6 PI cam was rated at 256 degrees, and gave a gross rated 125 HP DIN.
The DIN rating was more conservative than the SAE rating at the time,
and so explained some (but not all) of the drop in power.

As for recalibrating the PI, what do your spark plugs say? Us
yanks don't get to play with PI (the rest of the world always gets
better stuff than we do. Humph!) but if memory serves there are some
limited adjustments that can be made without changing the fuel cam. Do
your plugs read rich? Can you adjust it enough to get the nice tan color
on your plugs that you seek?

        Cheers,

        Vance

Hi all, can any one help me with the distributor or engine crankshaft
advance figures for a TR6.

I have just bought a 2.5PI Mk1 saloon with a TR6 cam fitted but I wan't
to double check if they have modified the distributor correctly as it is
still a sedan distributor.

BTW - I have a CR spec engine (high compression 9.5/1) and standard fuel
injection which I know also needs to be recalibrated different springs
etc.

Was ther a difference between TR5 and TR6 cams and hence advance curves
