Joe---Now might be a good time to take your car to a muffler shop. They
should have the equipment to find the source of your exhaust leak. Looks
like you have exhausted most of the easy finds!
Take another look at the "running a little rich" as part of this smell
you have. If it's raw gas that enters the exhaust system this might be
what's turning to fumes downstream. Even these fumes have to come out
somewhere, so this is where the guys with the rack and sniffers come in.
