Dave, are you sure about this? My understanding is that really late cars had
a speedo drive gear with a different number of teeth than earlier cars. The
Moss catalog (and others as well) lists different part numbers for the
J-type OD speedo drive gear for cars before CF35001 and from CF35001 and
onwards.
I had a conversation with Brian Schlorff of Power British some time ago
about this and he was claiming that the gear was different and the speedos
were also different as a result.
I personally think the speedos were calibrated for the *combination* of
speedo drive gear, diff ratio and tire size (in addition to different diff
ratios, the PI cars had smaller tires than the TC cars).
But I'm happy to be proven wrong if someone has data on this. John Mac
