The pin sticking out of the tool should engage the recess in the piston.
Take off the damper, stick the tool down the bore and rotate the outer
part until it engages the piston.  The grab the outer part while you
turn the allen wrench CW to make the mixture richer.  With the engine at
idle you should be able to lift the piston by whatever the book says,
and if it starts to die its too lean, if it speeds up its too rich, and
if it more or less stays the same you're good to go.  If you haven't
already done so, you should balance the carbs first.  Use a hose to
listen for even suction at idle, or buy the balancing tool.
