Late last year I converted my 75 to electronic ignition. It runs great but
there are not many miles on it yet. This is a Crane XR3000 conversion and
Crane's high energy coil, PS91. The wires are NAPA Belden high performace
yellow 8MM and the plugs are NGK BR6ES-11 (better choice might be
BPR6ES-11). The -11 plugs are designed for a gap of .044" that the high
output coil can easily handle. No ballast resistor is used.
The Crane XR3000 is similar to the XR700 in that there is an external spark
box. The coil design is a much different than the original but it's mounted
in the same location on a 1/4" plate. The ignition wires come off the cap in
90 degree red silicon boots making a neat array rather than the fountain
effect of the originals. I'll have to let you know how it performs once
there are more miles on it. A picture is available if anyone is interested.
