Hi Jim
Something to be aware of, all the later engines from Triumph, 1100 1300 1500
2000 2500 cc versions and possibly the earlier Standard Vanguard (TR)
engines have the oil flow to the rocker shaft regulated by the rear cam
bearing, there is (should be) a flat on the rear journal that connects the
upper gallery to the lower gallery once every two turns of the crank (one
turn of the cam), if this is not in alignment no amount of turning the pump
will prime the rocker gallery, you will need to slowly turn the engine over
until the oil flows, and since the connection of the gallery will provide
another exit for the oil, you may see this as a slight drop in the oil
pressure. It does take a fair amount of time for the oil to reach the
rockers due to the small volume transferred at each pass of the flat on the
cam., I would try priming the upper end through the cross head screw (use
loctite or be prepared to fish for this in the future!) or the bolt at the
rear of the head to reduce the amount of time taken to prime.

Graham.
