VSCDA NEWS RELEASE:
In response to recent criticisms and comments regarding the annual VSCDA Meeting
and Dinner, the VSCDA board of directors met in emergency session and adopted
the
following change in policy regarding the annual meeting and dinner:
"Although it is to late to change the plans for the 2002 Annual meeting
and Dinner, being mindful of the voiced concerns of a small but vocal
minority of the membership, the VSCDA board of directors has
unanimously voted to change the location of the event for the year 2003
and future years. The meeting will be held in early February, as is
traditional, but will be held at a McDonald's Restaurant somewhere in
the Chicago area. The exact location and date will be announced in the
near future. There will be a pre-banquet cocktail party in the
McDonald's parking lot - BYOB. It is recommended that guests keep
their drinks in brown paper bags to avoid attracting the attention of
law enforcement officers who tend to be in such neighborhoods in
force. Dinner serving will be cafeteria style. As in the past, the
club will underwrite a portion of the cost of the meal for each member
and guest. Each will be given a coupon good for one-half the cost of a
"Happy Meal". Due to this discount, no toy cartoon figures will be
included with the meal. There will be free refills. For those
desiring more adventuresome, less expensive cuisine, the board will be
arranging for free dumpster diving at a nearby 7-11. Entertainment
will be provided by several homeless persons conducting a demolition
derby in the parking lot with shopping carts. Depending on the
eventual site chosen, there may be also be a live drive-by shooting.
