What to carry is an individual decision. If the bad guy is wearing a vest, 18
rounds of 9mm to the chest isn't going to be any more valuable than 10 rounds
of .40. At that point, it's all about a head shot. Either one will get the
job done.

I don't claim to be an expert, just want to use what makes me most secure.

Who developed "the Mozambique Drill"?
That .40 and .45 fanboy speak is old and tired. Give me 18 rounds of
9mm over 8 round of 45 any day. The 45 isn't THAT much more powerful
than a 9mm. In fact, 9mm muzzle energy is about the same as the 45,
generally around 375-400ftlbs. If your assailant is wearing a vest
and your 45 mindset says stop after the double tap then you will have
needed a different mindset.

There are some who prefer concealed carry because open carry
identifies you as a primary target. Some feel open carry is a
deterrent. Criminals and thugs grow up nowadays in a gun culture.
They aren't afraid of guns. Many have seen them all their lives and
had many guns pointed at them. They don't care, have nothing to lose,
and aren't afraid to be shot or killed. You can ask cops if you know
any. They will tell you thugs aren't scared of guys in uniform with
guns. If a thug sees you with your nice XD open carrying obliviously
he might just knock you in the head and take it. A gun is a tool, not
a magic safety shield. Many people spend time, effort, and money
learning how to shoot and invest nothing in situational awareness and
conflict resolution.
