Fuel economy aside, Walt....
........the higher ratio diffs are useful depending upon the kind of driving
you are going to do.
For those doing a majority of limited access driving, a 3.9 or better yet, a
3.7 will yield
not only better fuel economy, but (all things being equal) increased engine
service life through reduced piston travel (lower rpm) at speed.
Best of the bunch.....
The Datsun five-speed's first 3 gears are lower than those of a ribcase gear
box so
going with the higher ratio diffs in this case doesn't slow your acceleration
that much.
