What the resistance of the sender unit is ONLY counts if it MATCHES the 
gauge.
Early spridgets read one way, i.e., XXX = full - XX = empty.
Whereas later spridgets read the opposite, i.e., XX = full - XXX = empty.
NOTE: I'M DOING THIS FROM MEMORY SO IT COULD BE THE OPPOSITE!  Don't have 
the time to dig out my reference material right now.
The sender and gauge have to be on the same wave length (resistance) or they 
won't work together.
