I never had anything to hide, so I always cooperated and let them search.
After about fifteen searches and a dozen or so tickets for things I hadn't
done, every cop in Hollywood knew me and they left me alone......except for
that CHP officer. I could never take it out of Hollywood after dark though.
I always wondered if there was a police training film with bad guys driving
Hudson Hornets. Obviously, this was all years ago when was a young starving
musician, and insurance wasn't required. Otherwise, the insurance premiums
would have broken my bank after all those tickets. The funny thing is,
during that same period, I took my '53 F-100 panel to gigs and they wouldn't
pull that over if I drove it down the sidewalk. They were very
discriminating in those days.
