Dave, that's actually an excellent solution. Another variation was
when my Etype clearances were so close to factory tolerances, I
saved the original factory bore by knurling new zero oversize
pistons on the non thrust side to match each hole. Wound up with a
factory tight rebuild with stock size rehoned bore - but I didn't
get any extra concours points for that trick.

BTW was there a reason not to replace your old piston rings with
new ones for the fresh holes? I'm not sure but used rings may
loose some of their original tension.
