MAINE TO SCRAP OLD CARS
On April 12, Governor Angus King signed into law L.D. 2182, a bill designed
to “improve air quality through market incentives for the purchase of
cleaner vehicles.” A main feature of the bill calls for the scrapping of
older cars that, according to the bill’s sponsors, diminish air quality.
The bill was opposed by several automotive industry organizations, including
the Automotive Parts Rebuilders Association (APRA) and the Specialty
Equipment Market Association (SEMA).
