I think Brad was referring to Japanese workers in Japan.  I worked for
Kawasaki and Mazda back in the 70's and 80's and what Brad said was true
for the Japanese workers brought over here (USA) from Japan.  Their
housing was paid for by the company.  Their cars were supplied by the
company.  They were paid on average 50% more than us roundeyes.  And I'm
talking about workers on the same level as myself, not just the
higher-ups.  At Mazda the Japanese bosses did look way, way down on us
roundeyes (their term).  We were only there because we could speak and
write in English.

By the way, in a previous post someone said that the Miata was
"...funded and built by Mazda after being turned down by the big
three."  Not true.  The two guys that came up with the design worked for
Mazda for some time before designing the Miata and the only place that
design went was to their bosses at Mazda.
