Sarina,

The Check Engine light means that the computer (which runs your engine and
transmission based on information and feedback from a bunch of sensors)
senses that something is not right. Maybe there is actually something wrong
(leading to diminished performance or excessive emissions), or maybe one of
the sensors has aged and is no longer sending the right information.

The only way to deal with it is to find out what conditions the computer has
recorded. This comes in the form of a 3-digit number (or numbers, if
there's more than one issue), which you then look up on various internet
resources and (I hope) also report back to this list. We can help you best
once you've told us those 3-digit code(s).

Call around to local auto parts stores; many offer, as a free service
(hoping it will lead to parts purchases), to help you get your computer to
cough up its codes.

Please get back to us with those numbers and we can help you sort out and
repair whatever's wrong.

I have a 94' ATX in relatively good shape. It's been very reliable and all
of a sudden the check engine light went on. I checked all the fluids and
they are good, but I noticed a slight hesitation while accelerating. It's
was as if the accelerator was losing power, but it never cut out. Any
ideas?
Thanks a million.
