If you can find one, get the 4.3L V-6 rather than the 2.8L V-6. I had the
2.8L and didn't have any problems, but I have had quite a few friends that
did. It got better in the later years, but it was not a power-house, and
it isn't quite as nice as the 4.3L. The 4.3L is essentially a 350ci Chevy
with 2-cyl. cut off. It isn't too difficult to get 200hp from one and
230+ft./lb. of torque from one. There were versions produced by GMC
(Typhoon and Syclone) that produced near 300hp, and 300+ ft./lb. of torque
(if I remember correctly it was 285hp, and 320 ft./lb. torque. It has been
a few years since these were produced) when fuel injected,
twin-turbo-charged, and inter-cooled. Good luck.

from a late model S10 or full size Chevy/GMC pickup or Camero? The new V6
options seem to have plenty of power, get reasonably good fuel economy, and
you can find parts and someone to fix them almost anywhere. They are also
physically shorter and close to 80 pounds lighter than a 350 and would not
weigh the front end down. That makes it a bit easier on the steering. I
know it is not a "muscle" motor but take a drive in a full size Chevy/GMC
with a V6 and I think you might be impressed by what the motor will do.
Best of luck...Bob Fentress
