I think the 1275 is a great swap. Our Traveller came to us with
a smoothcase behind a 1275; the smoothcase wasn't in great shape
after the experience, but was certainly still usable. We have since
put in a Datsun 5-speed and like it lots.
But I think the OP is faced with a 1500 in the hand, vs looking
around for something else... and the concensus on that seems to
be that it's not worth the effort involved.
