We relocated last year. Vibrations are the key item to consider. Ours broke
off during competition. Any solid mounts that you make MUST be attached to the
engine not the frame. Any frame mounts must be of a type that will have a
little give to them. You should also think of the gasket material. Ideally
you would just make sure your manifold and head was surfaced then you would
bolt up without a gasket. In general exhaust gaskets cause more problems than
they solve. Then again, with Aluminum you are almost required to use a gasket.
Corrosion is another problem with this area. You need to be careful to
compensate for this. Your fasteners will likely go in once and you will twist
the head off the next time you try to take them out. As far as power, IF you
can get a fairly strait shot out of the bowl you shouldn't see a noticeable
difference although there will be some. In my experience building engines back
pressure is always a negative in all cases. The stock muffler flows bad, but
there is not a lot you can do about that. The most important thing to do is
get a lot of support from the engine to the pipe and the muffler. Don't let
the muffler flop around at the end of a 9" lever or you will break all kinds of
things you really, really dont want to break!
