If I had a GT6 gearbox, I would compare the input shaft gear with one of the
Spit input shafts I have just to see what gives.

the Spitfire has, I can't see how that would work. The first gear for the
3-rail Spitfire has a ratio of 3.75 compared to 2.65 for the GT6, therefore the
input shaft gear won't mesh with the gears in the GT6 box. Here is a link
